Objective
To use play activities to build a bridge between the skills children have and the skills they are looking to acquire. We accomplish this objective by changing requirements, environment, or assistance level.
The intervention
- Comprehensive Evaluation- allows us to identify strengths and weaknesses as the child and caregivers see them
- Treatment Planning- geared toward discharge from the first meeting with the goals updated on an ongoing basis
- Treatment- is a sequence of play activities. Children learn through play. Our activities are shaped to use strengths to eliminate weaknesses. The level of challenge is meant to be enough to keep the child interested and growing without overchallenging to frustration.
- Home Program- actvities support skills learned in therapy at a decreased level of challenge to improve compliance.
OT session daily schedule
- first 15 minutes- warm-ups (exercises to focus, build awareness, or build strength) and talk about what's new
- 15-30 minutes- work on sensory sytems or individual motor skills as a scaffold for skilled activity
- 30-45 minutes- challenge activity or skill work
- 45-60 minutes- fun activity and going over home program
